GRAPES 100% Montepulciano D’Abruzzo METHOD OF PRODUCTION After a certain ripening degree, the grape-bearing shoots are cut to foster the wilting process until the grapes reach the expected parameters. These grapes are sustainably harvested. Fermentation consists of gentle grape pressing and maceration at controlled fermentation temperature. This wine ages in 50-litre French oak half-barriques for three years, followed by bottle-ageing. WINE NOTES This wine has a very dark red color; intense bouquet with the typical aroma of the Montepulciano grape. With blackcurrants and licorice flavors; it has a well-rounded, balanced and very lingering taste. Bottle-ageing can last even for over 10 years. RECOMMENDED FOOD By itself as a dessert wine, or in combination with a chocolate dessert. Serve at 14-16°C. ESTATE & WINES The 500 acres of the estate of Ciccio Zaccagnini is located in Bolognano, alongside the Rome-Pescara highway, in the province of Pescara. It is situated approximately 30 miles from the coast and about 8 miles from the Maiella Mountain which rises 9,000 ft. The vineyards are located in the cru section called "Colle Morto di Bolognano". Marcello Zaccagnini, the dynamic director of the operation, together with his winemaker, Concezio Marulli, have been protagonists in renovating wine making in Abruzzo. Always keeping an eye on, they pay close attention to advancing technologies and modernization. Vines cultivated by Marcello Zaccagnini include Montepulciano and Trebbiano, both classic wines.
